About the Author

I've been reading about 70 years and Blackbird is one of those rare nuggets of pure gold in a whole mountain of clay . It plays out like the blues, full of riffs and bass and gravel that spin themselves into a mirror of soul not ashamed to get down and dirty and come up dragging us into a light we refused to open our eyes to before. Don't let the stomp and shuffle and guffaws fool you into thinking it's not about you, you ain't gonna get off that easy. I was in Gadsden Alabama for about three months in 1958, and he's not telling any lies. It was my first experience with deep southern segregationist views. A great morality tale told by a masterful and powerful writer about a very unique character.

His sister, Little Tiny, was normal.
Meaning, that she was not a dog vampire.
She was also a loyal sister.
When Big Tiny found the hole in the floor of the closet
and made his first of what was to become many
escapes and blood runs,
she didn't rat him out by barking.

if the blood dripping from his mouth when he returned,

Ok - From the title you should know that Big Tiny is a dog vampire. Apparently the first one of his kind. We are also told in the description that his sister, Little Tiny, (not a vampire) doesn't rat him out. However, SOMEone does.But here's the problem: Big Tiny is the FIRST dog vampire. So if he gets ratted out, who's going to believe such a crazy story?
Will anyone believe the snitch (Just who could know such a thing anyway?) and stop him before he escalates? I'm not telling so you'll have to read it for yourself.
I'm not into vampires, but this wasn't really gory. You might want to avoid it if you get weepy over the mention of (a pet's) blood and / or death.
BE FOREWARNED: There is the mention of a dog's head that has been removed from the body toward the very end of the book.
